Obituary of Sam Wing Sum Wong
“Sam” Wing Sum Wong, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Sam was born on June 22, 1930, to Wong Kai Mun and Chu Shu Lean in Taishan, Guangdong. He immigrated to the United States in 1979, with his wife and children. Sam was an active member of the Wong Family Benevolent Association and was known for his passion for Chinese calligraphy. He often practiced his beautiful artistic strokes and displayed his work in Boston’s Chinatown over the years.
Sam's love for art extended to his personal style, as he was often recognized for his well-dressed attire. He would wear a suit daily, taking pride in his appearance and upholding the traditions of the 1930s.
In his free time, Sam enjoyed being outdoors, visiting his hometown in Guangdong, playing mahjong, spending his mornings at a local dim-sum restaurant and sharing stories with his children and grandchildren.
Sam is survived by his sons, Chi Hoi (Pauline), Chi Wai (Stephanie), Chi Leung (Tan Fei) and his daughters Bik Ying (Bing See) and Bik Yee (Yui Gong). His grandchildren, Jennifer (Christopher), Victor (Fei), Will, Man Lok (Christine), Eleanor (Adam), Melissa, Michelle (Andy), Chung, Sandra, Wai Lun, and Chi Chung. His great-grandchildren, Ella, Sophia, Ethan, Darwin, Leila, Harper, and Julian.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Chui King (Ma) Wong and his parents.
Sam will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and community and he will live on in the memories of all who knew him.
