Obituary of Pak Ying Yee

Pak Ying Yee, loving wife, mother, grandmother passed away peacefully on the afternoon of August 14, 2021, at the age of 82. She is survived by her sons, Lee, William and John, their wives, and her 4 grandchildren. Pak lived a very fulfilling life from humble beginnings. She was originally born in Hong Kong and lived between China and Hong Kong at various stages of her youth. She finished high school and attended dress-making school while in Hong Kong. In 1961 she met and married her husband Wing Cheong Yee and settled in Boston, MA where they raised 3 boys together while working at Lew Shing restaurant. After her years as a homemaker, she gradually took on more roles at the restaurant. In retirement, she enjoyed babysitting and on her weekends she actively participated at the Lee Association in Chinatown where she became president of the Women's Auxiliary and met many good friends to this day. Once the grandchildren started school, she took the opportunity to go on group trips to China, Hong Kong, and California. She enrolled in a 6-year program to write and speak English at the Asian American Civic Association in Chinatown and graduated at the top of her class. Pak was diagnosed with a form of lung cancer 12 years ago that mainly affects Asian females who never smoked. Luckily, that didn't slow her down and she was able to frequently accompany her family on vacations throughout the years. She happily lived independently at her Boston apartment until very recently. The cancer progressed very quickly but she was comforted by her surroundings and her extended family and friends who loved her very much. A memorial service will be held at Wing Fook Funeral Home at 13 Gerard St., Boston, MA 02119, on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral procession will leave for Forest Hills Cemetery at 1 p.m. Those who wish to honor Pak's life in lieu of flowers are encouraged to donate to her favorite cause, the Asian American Civic Association 87 Tyler Street, Boston, MA 02111 or aaca-boston.org.
